That the oriental cuisine has more to offer than kebab is well known. After Khaleds ballad šAisha› or Cheb Mamis ‚Desert Roseš together with Sting, the western world also knows that music from the orient can be exciting and inventive. If Rai is only a commercial cue ball on the worldmarket, or not, fact is that Rai made music from the whole orient much more popular.Nowadays superstars like Tarkan, Natacha Atlas, Rachid Taha hypnotise the audience with their mixture from orient , moods and feelings.Traditional sound of nord-african countries meet american and european pop-music, the singing is in arabic, or turkish. Raï- and chaabi-sounds meet elements of pop, elektrosounds, salsa, reggae, funk and breakbeats. Today oriental music is mixed with all music-styles, also with elements of flamenco, rap and funk. It is hard to describe the music from the orient, because it is as multiplex as the music from the western world.For example there is pop-music from Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt , the Libanon, oriental flavored music from the mediterranean area like Greece, or Spain and also eastern europe (Despina Vandi, Gayan Uttejak Orchestra, Harem, Omega Vibes). Especially in the last years many western musicians, DJs and producers where searching for new inspiration.More and more often the oriental music is a rich source (The Rootsman, Nickodemus, Dissidenten, Back to Basics). To make it more atmospheric you should enjoy a turkish mocca, the recipe comes for free:Ingredients: 60g fine milled coffee, 8 teaspoon sugar, 4 mocca-cups of water. The real turkish coffee must be made in a copper kettle with long handle.Mix coffee and sugar and put it in the kettle. Fill it up with 1/3 of the water and boil it. Add the second third of water and reboil. Add the remaining water and boil for the third time.Now fill the developing foam into the small cups and add the coffee. Serve hot!
